Introducing new members of the Blue Lion Training Academy Team…
Tracy Dalton
“Hello, I’m Tracy Dalton, one of the Blue Lion Lean 6 Sigma tutors, supporting apprentices through continuous improvement training.
With over 16 years’ experience applying continuous improvement has given me great work satisfaction. Leading improvement activities from Just Do It’s to award winning change programs. My background is within the aerospace sector, primarily in the warehousing environment and supporting supply chain transactional functions. It’s great to see that Lean 6 Sigma is being increasingly adopted in the transactional environment and businesses are benefiting from the results.
Joining the team at Blue Lion Training Academy, enables me to inspire and train apprentices to develop their knowledge and behaviours, alongside providing them with the tools and skills to start their journey through continuous improvement and lead their own change projects. This is very satisfying for me.
John Ettles
Hi, I’m John Ettles and I’m a Blue Lion tutor supporting the apprentices through their learning journey.
I have worked in continuous improvement in its many guises for over 24 years, with the last 12 years as an independent Improvement consultant. I have always enjoyed training and sharing my knowledge and bringing improvement to life for others and the opportunity to share this in such a structured programme is very exciting, after all that’s how my journey started.
As a team leader in Kodak Limited back in 1999, lean was introduced into the factory, as an early adopter I spend 5 years learning and delivering Lean (Toyota Production System) and Six Sigma Projects, changing and transforming production, systems, inventory, supply chain, etc. From here I have worked in most service sectors for large and small organisations, applying, adapting and delivering continuous improvement, change and transformation which continues to be a journey of discovery, problem solving and satisfaction.
The Blue Lion apprenticeship approach allows me to share this knowledge while ensuring that all required lean and six sigma skills are comprehensively covered in a structured learning and importantly demonstrated application. Allowing me to play a part in developing the next generation of skilled problem solvers and continuous improvement experts, it doesn’t get better than that.
Jimmy Forster
Hi I’m Jimmy and I have over 30 year’s experience in the manufacturing sector, with a passion for continually improving processes and procedures with a flair for continuously developing myself and my team through identifying their needs via strong communication and ongoing training.
I have worked as a worked as an Operational Manager for many years. My recipe for success is to gain respect from my peers and team members, effectively communicating, recognising area’s for improvement and facilitating those requirements.
While working at GeStamp (Tallent Automotive), early in my career, I developed, wrote and implemented Standard Operating Instructions to shop floor personnel.
This then led to being heavily involved in many improvement projects dealing with quality improvements, efficiency gains and cost saving initiatives. Result of using Lean Principles.
This was the start of the Lean Journey…
I want to share my knowledge with a wider audience, therefore I now deliver Lean 6 Sigma Training to a variety of sectors.
I live in the North East, with my wife and two children. I relax by spending time with my family and having a round of golf when time permits.

BUD TIPS & TRICKS
Preferred Gender & Pronouns
Following your feedback, we have added some further information to support applicants with their preferred gender and pronouns. While we must follow the ESFA ILR specification and continue to collect the applicant’s Legal Sex with only Male and Female options, we have added two optional questions to Bud’s Apprenticeship enrolment:
- Preferred gender
- Preferred pronouns
These questions will be in both the training provider view and the applicant self-enrolment process for Apprenticeship applications. Please note this is not yet available in OST applications.
Where an applicant has selected their preferred pronouns, this will be displayed on their contact card in the Learning Plan, which will be visible to the Learner, Employer and Training Provider. Example:
For further information on selecting preferred genders & pronouns during the Apprenticeship application, please see this article.
It is also possible for existing learners, both Apprenticeship and OST learners, and training provider users to add their preferred pronouns and gender by updating their account page. Like for new applicants, the selected preferred pronouns will be displayed on the contact card for that user.
For further information on selecting preferred genders & pronouns from user account, please see this article.

In June we celebrated “Pride Month” with a vibrant and inclusive celebration that honors the LGBTQ+ community
The history, achievements, and ongoing struggle for equality. This annual event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance, diversity, and love. It brings together individuals, organizations, and communities to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and celebrate the progress made towards a more inclusive society. In this article, we explore the essence of Pride Month 2024, its history, and how you can actively participate in this empowering celebration.
What is Pride Month 2024?
Pride Month is a month-long celebration that recognizes the LGBTQ+ community and their contributions to society. It is a time to acknowledge the challenges faced by this community and to stand in solidarity with their fight for equality, acceptance, and human rights. Pride Month is a joyful and colorful display of love, unity, and resilience, with events and activities that promote inclusivity, educate the public, and celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities.
When was Pride Month?
Pride Month is traditionally celebrated in June around the world, including in the United Kingdom. In 2024, Pride Month took place from June 1st to June 30th. This extended period allows for a wide range of events, parades, marches, and discussions to take place, providing opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies to come together and make their voices heard.
How can I get involved in Pride Month 2024? Getting involved in Pride Month allows you to actively support the LGBTQ+ community and contribute to a more inclusive society. Here are some ways you can participate:
- Attend Pride Parades and Events: Check local listings for Pride parades, festivals, and events happening in your area. Participate in the vibrant celebrations, join marches, and immerse yourself in the supportive and inclusive atmosphere. These events are an opportunity to show solidarity and celebrate diversity while having a great time.
- Educate Yourself and Others: Take the time to learn about the history, struggles, and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. Read books, watch films, listen to podcasts, and engage in conversations that foster understanding and empathy. Share your knowledge with others, particularly those who may be less familiar with LGBTQ+ issues, to promote acceptance and awareness.
- Support LGBTQ+ Organizations: Consider donating to LGBTQ+ charities and organizations that work towards promoting equality and providing support to the community. Volunteer your time or skills to help organize events or initiatives that uplift and empower LGBTQ+ individuals.
- Advocate for LGBTQ+ Rights: Use your voice to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and equality in your community and beyond. Engage in conversations, challenge discriminatory attitudes and behaviors, and support legislative changes that protect the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals.
