Getting the Most from a Progress Review
Progress Reviews are an important part of the apprenticeship journey. They bring together the learner, employer and tutor to review progress, celebrate achievements, discuss any challenges and agree clear next steps to support successful completion of the programme.
A few simple steps can help make every review as valuable as possible:
✔ Attend the Review
Progress Reviews are a tripartite meeting involving the learner, employer and tutor. Attendance from all parties is important to ensure progress, support needs and development opportunities can be discussed and agreed together.
✔ Complete Your Comments Before the Review
The Progress Review will be opened a few days before the scheduled meeting. Taking a few minutes to complete the comments beforehand helps everyone come prepared and allows more time during the review to focus on meaningful discussion, progress, achievements and any support required.
✔ Come Ready to Discuss Progress
Think about what has gone well since the last review, any challenges faced and what support may be needed moving forward. Open and honest discussions help keep apprenticeships on track and ensure the right support is in place.
✔ Complete Signatures Promptly
Once the review has been completed, please ensure all required signatures are completed as soon as possible. This helps maintain accurate records and prevents unnecessary follow-up.
✔ Book the Next Review Before You Leave
Before the meeting ends, agree and schedule the next Progress Review. Booking reviews in advance helps maintain momentum and ensures regular opportunities to review progress, provide support and keep the apprenticeship moving forward.
By taking these simple steps, learners and employers can help ensure Progress Reviews remain focused, productive and valuable throughout the apprenticeship journey.

WELFARE NEWS
As the academic year draws to a close and we approach the end of another successful year at Blue Lion Training Academy, many of our learners are supporting children and young people through exam season while balancing work, family life and their own professional development. Whether helping with revision, providing encouragement or managing the pressures that exams can bring to family life, this can be a demanding period. At the same time, the excitement of the World Cup is bringing communities together, celebrating diversity and creating opportunities for inclusion and shared experiences.
At Blue Lion, we are proud that learning is designed around real life. Apprenticeships allow individuals to gain valuable skills, knowledge and qualifications while continuing to work, develop their careers and meet family commitments. Learning takes place when it is most relevant and impactful, enabling learners to immediately apply new knowledge Skills and Behaviours within their workplace and personal lives.
This year has seen significant growth and innovation across our provision. We have successfully introduced shorter, more focused programmes that provide learners and employers with faster routes to impactful skills development while maintaining the quality and depth expected from an apprenticeship. Alongside this, we have expanded our curriculum with a range of market-leading programmes designed to meet the changing needs of modern employers and industries.
We are equally proud of the support available beyond the classroom. Our website hosts a range of safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusion and learner support resources which are freely available to learners, employers, families and members of the wider community. These resources provide practical guidance, signposting and support on a wide range of topics, ensuring help is available whenever it is needed.
Safeguarding and inclusion remain at the heart of everything we do. Through regular learner check-ins, progress reviews, welfare discussions and proactive support, we work hard to identify and remove barriers to learning before they become obstacles to success. Our QR Code Check-In system allows learners to quickly raise safeguarding concerns, wellbeing issues or barriers to learning, ensuring support can be provided rapidly and effectively. Recent external scrutiny praised this approach, recognising the strong monitoring of learner wellbeing, the effectiveness of our safeguarding processes and the speed of intervention when support is required.
Our commitment to inclusion ensures that every learner feels safe, valued and able to achieve their potential regardless of background, experience or personal circumstances. This was highlighted during our recent external review, where employers and learners consistently rated their Blue Lion experience highly, praising the quality of teaching, learner support, wellbeing provision and the life-changing impact apprenticeships have had on their careers and confidence.
As we look ahead to the new academic yeart, we remain committed to providing exceptional learning experiences that help learners and employers succeed with our outstanding support, innovative programmes and a culture of inclusion.
